Interiors.. a site for sore eyes

Each day when I take the walk from home to the studio I like to vary the route and on each route there is a variety of interesting shops to stimulate the senses.  Going via Redchurch Street is one of my favourites, not only are there many new galleries with something  new to look at  but  a glance into Squint a always brightens the day. The colourful patchwork upholstery well lit in the dark interior really pings out at you and since they moved to the larger premises  there  has been more offer to enjoy.

Fashion news

Back in the mid nineties when in my Ezra Street studio overlooking Columbia  Road flower market I was  visited by a whirlwind buying team that  might be best described as "Joan Rivers meets the Scissor Sisters". They were buying for their Greenwich Village boutique  "House of Field". These days Patricia Field has moved on to greater things. Not only styling the new Sex and the City movie as well as previously The Devil Wears Prada,  she has just also entered into collaboration with Marks & Spencer to release a 35 piece collection exclusive to selected stores as well as online. Available from October 2008

Illustration

I was delighted when these prints I ordered from Etsy arrived today. I love the dreamscapes and the succulent colours. This is my first purchase by the illustrator  Dan-ah  Kim and my first from Etsy. Top marks for a speedy delivery.

The Long Weekend

this being a bank holiday weekend here in England the weather was typically un-holiday like. However, a bit of sunshine  did allow  an  afternoon spent in Victoria Park visiting  Carters traditional steam fair. For my two year old son Harvey the experience was mind blowing and to watch him take his first solo rides and endless descents down the Helter Skelter was priceless.

I thought I would start this blog  with one of my all time favourite design objects. The lounge chair by Gerrald Summer. For me it ticks all the boxes.  By todays standards its maybe a bit heavier than it needs to be  but still simply beautiful. Cut from one piece of ply, and produced around 1932 it was way ahead of the game.
